Promise to hold?

Once upon a time I was told:
Love is a promise to hold
Can you get it right away?
To understand it I was late
Can you be ready for that
To give it and be glad?
Can you promise to stay
With me not just for today
But for forever as you say
Love has no expiration day
Has no end, never started
We so used to fight it
That you see it too late
When we do we call it "fate"
When we lose we say not mine
Will it come? That time
When we all know it and
Welcome it with a hand
And with an open heart
Will you give it a start
Will forever hold take place
Will I see it on your face,
Will I hear in your voice?
Will you make that choice?
Will I feel what I was told:
