What Might Have Been
The Beginning
She was the apple of my eye when we first met
Her radient smile, shaply body and dainty little feet;
We talked about mundane things and seemed to gel
Then when in bed, the sex was swell.
We later met at many sport and social events
These meetings usually cumulated in sex
Tender words were always spoken
Mutual gifts were more than a token
The ending
After six months politics reared its head
Perhaps it should not be discussed in bed.
Our opinions and values were poles apart
An explanation I will not try to start
We could not reconcile our difference;
Relunctantly we agreed to keep our distance.
I see her sometimes on a demonstration
Her banners could start an altercation
It has badly diminished my esteem
To have fallen for one so extreme
