My boyfriend got me pregnant
Despite our contraception
But the state holds power like a monarch regnant
Because they seem to have this misconception
That life starts at the moment of conception
Despite not being able to survive on its own
The government has this extrasensory perception
That a life that can’t live being killed can’t be condoned
They want me to sit on my knees and atone
Say sorry and carry to term something I can’t hold
To go out of my mind with a body still not used to hormones
To let this child go the moment it can breathe, so I’m told
They tell me that my body is no longer just mine to mold
That I should think of the child that’s inside my womb
Yet I am a child myself, still unable to behold
What I look like in full bloom
