Sandman

Close your eyes, my little one
Have no fear, the Sandman will come
Take you to a land of lullabies
Away to your very own paradise.

Once you’re there, the noise will cease
No war between parents, just blissful peace
Hide in your world, stay there all night
Until the dawn brings you back to your plight

Have no fear, my tiny child
He’s running late, he’ll be a while
For now, shut out the noise and wait
He will come, even though he’s late.

Just pull your pillow over your head
Pretend you’re in a different bed
Where the parents are smiling downstairs
And raised voices don’t haunt your nightmares.

The noises have stopped - has he come?
Yes he has, and your parents are gone.
Both asleep, now the storm has passed
Silence is golden - enjoy while it lasts.

I envy you, you little dear.
You see, the Sandman never came here.
My parents rages were my lullabies
I never had my own paradise.
