Soul Searching
I’ve never seen a soul that makes me smile,
Never seen a soul to make me shine
Like I have one of my own.
And I’ve heard a thousand love songs,
And a million more of romance,
But not one of the souls they speak of.
I’ve a thousand meagre souls,
Even ones to cause a pause
And move on unaffected.
I’ve seen a million souls,
Scoured the world from east to west
To the chilly north and the frozen south.
A million smiles, a million eyes,
Every shade of knowledge ever known
And still I’ve never seen a soul
To make me think of smiling.
Perhaps the break is correct, after all,
And never been loved is a small thing.
Perhaps I have been fooled
Into looking for loves which lie,
And searching for souls is futile.
I’ve never seen a soul at all.
Never seen a soul to make me shine
Like I have one of my own.
And I’ve heard a thousand love songs,
And a million more of romance,
But not one of the souls they speak of.
I’ve a thousand meagre souls,
Even ones to cause a pause
And move on unaffected.
I’ve seen a million souls,
Scoured the world from east to west
To the chilly north and the frozen south.
A million smiles, a million eyes,
Every shade of knowledge ever known
And still I’ve never seen a soul
To make me think of smiling.
Perhaps the break is correct, after all,
And never been loved is a small thing.
Perhaps I have been fooled
Into looking for loves which lie,
And searching for souls is futile.
I’ve never seen a soul at all.
