The Drowning Girls' Ballad
Why did you go and do that now?
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
You wanted water in your lungs
You got it, but now too
fast the liquid is rising up
and it will swallow you
Always walking between two worlds
One foot in, one foot out
Plagued all night by screaming voices
and daylight brings fresh doubt
Why did you go and do that now?
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
Step into the heart of the lake
Feel the waters' caress
Let go of your worth and worries
Without any duress
Let sparkling clarity wash you
Let the salt fill your blood
Now there's no cause for panicking
Just sink slow, into mud
The sky is the last thing you'll see
The sun waving goodbye
If only you couldn't feel this
you wouldn't want to die
Why did you go and do that now?
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
In the midst of your drowning swirl
your fingers stretch, uncurl
to feel the fluid that takes you
The last thing in this world
Trapped in your own burning building
Where will the story end?
With a body in a coffin
surrounded by your friends?
Why did you go and do that now?
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
They lay you out on the pale stone
Your lips have turned pale blue
What a tragedy, they all say
What a rash thing to do
But your spirit still lingers on
to see the choice she made
to see the grief etched upon smiles
to feel each ounce of pain
Why did you go and do that now?
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
This thing is what you wanted most
Eternally at peace
But now you cry out for return
A chance to say your piece
Tell the ones you love that you did
Before it is too late
You shouldn't be a drowning girl
and it's not fixed in fate
Why did you go and do that now?
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
Your lungs are suspended
You're another drowning girl
and your life has ended
You wanted water in your lungs
You got it, but now too
