Your Own Voice

There was a time not too long ago
Where I wouldn't offer a sound
The thoughts in my mind were my own inside
But nothing to celebrate or astound
When I had the audacity to write
A feeble attempt at a rhyme
The words that I thought would be hard to conjure
Came easier with the passage of time
I came back again to try my hand
And soon I had written quite a few
Pieces that were all insights to myself
But I couldn't stop there I wasn't quite through
What started as a dare aimed squarely at me
Turned into an obsessive habit
Where I had to write out the thoughts in my head
Take in the inspiration in any given moment and grab it

Now what works for me I feel pressed to pass
To others who have yet to find their voice
For we all have inside us an artist that ponders
It's the decision to let them out that is the crux of our choice
If you feel inside there is a story to be told
Or just need to vent that which is on your heart
Maybe it's a secret love letter to your beloved in the crowd
All that matters is that sometime you start

I can tell you from experience that there is no other feeling
To go forth then look back at your work
And see all the things you had dared to create
And think of how far you had come from the start
So be bold in your voice
Whether you write, dance, paint, or sing
All that you do is valid when done
Just remember only you can do your own thing
