Calm Before the Storm
She sat in the cold of morn
Winter’s breath rushing through
Her hair of gold
And stinging eyes of blue
And peeking sun that stretched
Over gravel sparkling anew
Grass of green
Glistening from night’s dew
She listened to birds’ songs
Of cheer and joy drifting
To push away the world’s wrongs
Of wars and blood spill
And pain
And the bustling people going to work
Hurrying from the clouds of threatening rain
Where she simply stood in the shadow
She was there for many an hour
‘Till the moon of silver rose
And made the sun cower
Beneath the veil of darkness
The clouds of grey
Rolled over the starry black
And she pushed herself up from where she lay
To feel droplets of water so cold
Splash her face to numb it from the ice
And the jacket of his hugged her in warm hold
Shelter from the creeping storm
As the calm of the day
Perished.
