The Dance

I’ve been waiting for you my love,
Been waiting for this chance.
My heart has weathered time,
By waiting for this dance.
I know that you have hurt me,
That I have broken for you.
Though this I cannot resist,
To tempt fate,
And not get a twist.
But now the time is right,
I’m all in,
I thought you were too.
I put my heart on the line again,
This time I trusted you.
Sweet words came from your lips,
And I savored your promises.
I didn’t know that they would be poison,
Now my heart it writhes in pain.
Another still pulls us apart,
Her tricks you should avoid.
For her ways are that of a thief,
She will take all you have,
And leave nothing for the wind.
Again,
I have been hurt by you.
Again,
My heart lays shattered.
How many times will I be a fool for you?
How long do you think I can wait.
My mind feels like sand,
Too many pieces to try and gather.
This isn’t new,
But I find myself,
Still wishing I were with you.
It lasted mere days,
This dance for you and I.
I thought I knew the steps,
But you knew them better than I.
You flung me to the wall again,
This time I tripped and fell.
I cannot stand,
I cannot breathe,
I feel like I’m in hell.
What more can I not give you?
You’ve taken all of me.
I am mere dust in August,
Now the wind will gather me.
