I never liked being in the EU anyway.

so you're left with a right wing government
unfettered by any constraints and which can do
whatever it wants...
"taking back control"
and "we've got our country back..."
mate, Boris and Farage are laughing at us...

It's a vote for the poor & the unrepresented...I hope. I'd be happy with Theresa May as our new leader but not George Osbourne or Nicky Morgan. Not sure if I completely trust Boris, as he might be in this more for his own reasons than ours.

If he doesn't, then I just simply vote him out. It's very democratic Paul. ;-)

Re: Re. and to those who voted to leave...
the damage a government can do
in the five years of its control...but hey
so long as you can vote it out afterwards..!
but that's not really the point. the rights
that we had under the umbrella of the
European union will now be for the
government to decide, which given the
background and views of the leaders
of the 'out' campaign, ain't very
reassuring...

At least we are electing this government to decide our rights. I don't seem to remember us voting in Jean-Claude Juncker to do it. ;-)

Re: Re. and to those who voted to leave...
we all had a vote for our
M.E.Ps...
...just like voting for
Westminster politicians...
I don't get it...
but damn it, I'm
going to bed now,
a little depressed...

Yes, we may have elected our MEP's but they in turn elected Jean-Claude Juncker, not us.

that's how it works. you didn't elect
Cameron as PM. Tories MPs did.
it's the same thing...

It's not quite the same thing actually. At least we can see who we are voting for, whereas you can't elect the head of the EU & that is my point sir, it's what I've been saying all along really. But in all my years of voting, I have never truly felt represented by anyone. :-(

to me now that we've lessened our
options, that's all... :)

We will have to wait & see. It's a matter of opinion at the moment about whether the merits of being out of the EU will outweigh the demerits. It's complicated if/when you delve into it. I like the idea of continuing with the common market but there are things around that I'm uncomfortable with. I'm also uncomfortable sharing my views on this subject online if I'm being honest.

No trouble but as you have eluded to, it's better down the pub. I do not wish everybody to share in my thoughts.

No, because you can elect up to say 1 of 12 different parties here if you wish, not just the obvious Labour, Conservative or Liberal would-be Prime Minister. We've got Greens, UKIP & Monster raving loonies if you so desire. We can see who they are before we vote for them. Ok, I appreciate that they have been selected by their party as the head, but we cannot elect the head of the EU, in other words, we do not have the choice to pick, say one of 12 heads of the EU because our MEP's elected him/her & it is not the same thing, it just isn't.

I actually deleted my response
to your modified reply
because I had promised not
to bother you anymore.
suffice to say that we're arguing
vastly different points...
I can see yours, although I
utterly disagree. the power behind the EU
is the collective elected leadership, Merkel et al,
of the individual states. If we're talking
figureheads, I give you the queen...
now I really promise not to respond
anymore, as I thought was your wish...
