Only One Exit

Sometimes we're just tossed into the fray,  
and goodbye becomes the only way.  
 
Waking dream you know isn't fully real,  
let alone what you thought for fleeting moments you feel.  
 
I am numbed and hardened, made cold and indifferent  
by the selfish and wicked ways of the world and humans.  
 
Ideas of love left to those childhood stories, fairy tales;  
 Just chalk it up on that list of fuck ups and oh wells.  
 
Our innocence a forgotten memory barely into youth.  
Yeah, look closely friend. You're actually the clown in the circus booth.  
 
Has one ever really loved you true, just for what is you, absent black and blue?  
Doubtful as they've been jaded in colors of the chosen hue.  
 
Yeah I wanted to help, be about something more;  
My fucking reward was another exit door by a disingenuous whore!  
 
What a fool was I, looking for things that don't even exist.  
Fuck being pissed; I was dissed and there wasn't a kiss, but nothing real was missed.  
 
Solitude now so long been my closest friend,  
that I forget where it all went or where it began.  
 
I'd be a fool to try and hold onto what was always gone,  
so I'm going to meditate on the plane above, singing timeless songs.  
 
Those of love unrequited and ancient that will never be,  
and the countless lost souls that will never know free.  
 
All the outward pleasures in which we hide to confide,  
ignoring the key to the path deep down inside.
