The Rebellious Wait (a short story)

I sat waiting, watching.

If he walked out we had won and the war was over. if he didn’t come out he was either dead or imprisoned to be questioned or tortured later. if he didn't come out we were all in danger.

The seconds ticked by a slow tick, tick, tick. i looked down at the watch he gave me. if he was not out in five minutes, we were to leave without him.

Tick, tick, tick.

He should have been out already.

Tick, tick.

I wish i knew what was going on inside.

Tick.

Than it happened.Fire seemed to explode from the building with a lot of noise. Glass flew in all directions from the structure. the force of the explosion threw me from my perch next to the window of the abandoned building me and three of the other freedom fighters were hiding in. I felt my head against the concrete wall and it all went black.
