Sleeping with the Enemy

I remember

Long walks
Late night talks
Wrestling in the dark
Fooling around at the park
How you said my name
Every time you came

And then you changed

A stranger in my bed
A double life you led
You were cold and distant
Former you nonexistent
Abusive mentally
Abusive... Physically
Excuses for you I gave
The old you I tried to save
I thought I was to blame
And it filled me with shame
You called me a whore
That you didn't know me anymore
You'd drink and yell
And hit me til I fell
Scared I would just cower
It gave you a sense of power
To see me so low and so weak
So frightened I couldn't speak
I was living a nightmare
I was in the devils lair
Wish Id know that this is how it'd be
That'd Id be sleeping with the enemy
