Revolution

The halcyon days were great and grand
When someone could talk without fear of animadversion
When the incendiary sparks of devious intentions were non existent
But over time it all fell apart
Malicious intent accosted the foundations of society
And tore down the pillars of propriety
Summarily leaving all that was grand in a pejorative state
The wounds turned to open sores as injustice swelled
The pains of change undulated to the rhythmic beat of despair
Giving birth to a maelstrom of hate that brought all into disrepair
The heads of state became myopic
Malicious intents become overt, a thing of the norm
Sacred talismans became relics to the once great past
Of which its memory was overshadowed by the great sacrilege
Created by those in power
But slowly a few began to see beyond the veil
Beyond their histrionic life
They formed together and began to prepare
No longer would they be suppliant
And slowly, at first their numbers grew
Word of their intentions spread through the ranks in all celerity
When they gained their strength, they began their gambit
They marched to the seat of power
And propounded that they be given what had been taken
But the state refused and those revolutionaries were to be captured
But they escaped, and the following war left a brackish taste
Lives were lost and civilization seemed derailed
Endless conflict on all all fronts
Finally, when the State found that their fight was lost
They proposed a covenant
Soon after the war ceased and they found peace
And the people avidly participated in reconstruction
The halcyon days were back, it seemed
