A Winter Tilling

Camelia and Hydrangea bloom white.
They brighten the midwinter gloom a tad,
But, like a mound of snowdrops, don’t excite
More than a passing comment. Just be glad
I led you to these uninspiring plants,
And had you strip your nice warm gown: silks pool
Around your feet – as do your bra and pants -
So naked, like a leafless branch. The rule
That you obey me always will remain
In place and you can thank me, for the thrill
Of cold sleet striking, later. Icy rain
Will make you gasp and open up; I’ll till
The warmth your mouth offers: pleasingly tight
While Winter vegetation still blooms white.
