Loved and Lost
(a gen-x sonnet)
"’Tis better to have loved and lost…” my ass!
For pain is born in losing what was known.
Few pains there are that losing love surpass,
So I would leave the loss of love alone.
I never thought that I would lose my heart,
I held no thought in thinking love was real.
In thoughtless love I watched my heart depart,
With painful thought, I watched real love reveal.
And unaware she gained my fickle love,
But thinking me a true and thoughtful friend,
Until my love was all she could think of,
And thinking both our love and like should end.
So I would think, in thinking love, refrain;
That loss in blissful ignorance remain
