Kiss me in this garden drear
At the blades of the iron gate.
Meet me there my dear
Where the marble cherubs wait.
Dance in the calm of death
That surrounds with so dark a glow
I shall inhale plumes of thy breath
Neath the threat of snow.
Break my mind where the cherubs pray...
Where each Mary sheds a tear.
Cast my heart and dreams away
Hold me--God hold me in whispers of secret fear.
The dead--steal their bouquets.
Cast them to the sky
While we their epitaphs praise
And o'er the sleepers lie.
Thy tearful eyes--thy quiet voice
In the moss-eaten angel throng.
May their melancholy rejoice
At the silence of our song.
Kiss me here in the high grass.
Meet me at the tomb's iron door
Where all the peaceful specters pass
To waves of the farther shore.
At the blades of the iron gate.
Meet me there my dear
Where the marble cherubs wait.
Dance in the calm of death
That surrounds with so dark a glow
I shall inhale plumes of thy breath
Neath the threat of snow.
Break my mind where the cherubs pray...
Where each Mary sheds a tear.

Where all the peaceful specters pass
To waves of the farther shore.
