Green eyes
Green Eyes Again
When we met she was still beautiful. If a bit careworn
English skin in Algarve suffers and burn easily, yet she was
fun to be with and in the beginning we swam in
the golden lake of my love and admiration for her but I did
notice her needs for a glass of wine and when in drinks
she became a serial adulteress I took my toothbrush and
moved back to my cabin in the mountain.
I met her yesterday a sober lady elegantly dressed and
walked with confidence. Over coffee told me she had been
living with a man from Holland, but when he became ill and
suddenly looked old, she sent him to an old people`s home
in Rotterdam. She was an ardent member of AA and had been
told not to risk her sobriety, in her tumultuous life it was
the only thing of value she had.
I was alarmed when she stroked my hand and looked lovingly
when asking about my health her sea green eyes dwelt on me.
I told her about my skin cancer and heart problems, the shine
In her eyes dimmed I was not worth risking her sobriety for.
She got up had more shopping to do, we had once been lovers
and I was the lucky one getting away in time
