That Was Love

The happiest few months of my life.
Those few months of blindness.
Blinded by all that you were to me.
At least, what you were back then.
You were so goddamn perfect.
Perfect enough to toy with me.
And I so foolish to enjoy every second.
And second by second, you took it.
Stole affection that you didn't deserve.
Every ounce of it, wasted on you.
That was love.
First, true love.

But I don't lose sleep over you.
No, I haven't given up on hope.
It might all seem worse in retrospect.
But the future will always be brighter.
So I look forward to new things.
New friends, new smiles, new hugs.
Change isn't necessarily a bad thing.
It means that shit can get a lot better.
And I'm better for all the hurting.
'Cause I'll be even happier when I find someone really special.
That'll be love.
Worth any wait.
