NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK

That needle in a haystack
Will we ever get it back
That needle lost in a haystack?

It sewed many a torn jean, shirt and dress
Where it's hidden
Is anyone's guess

It sewed my mother's wedding gown
That is a fact
That tiniest tool betrayed by a haystack

It doesn't make a sound
I give up sometimes
Don't care if it's ever found

But curiosity never dies
Could it be caught in the molar of a horse?
or in an irrigation ditch traveling its course?

That needle in a haystack
Will we ever get it back?
It mended long ago the cap of a soldier on furlough

Now neither the one or the other graces our sight
Will eons pass before someone spots it among a new time's detritus
Confusing it with a mere sliver of light ?
