Summer's Over Now

The summer seemed to go by in a haze, and I drifted day to day in and out of bliss...
Your attention feeding me and creating a craving, the taste of your lips quenched my thirst and your pretty words left my mind starved for more...
The moon and stars were nothing compared to the beauty of being wrapped up in your rapture and I passed the sleepless hours counting the seconds until I could return,
One, two, three...
The excitement and anticipation of what was to come became the melody of my heart, drowning out the phone that would never ring.
We built plans on promises, I with brick, you with sand...
And though my heart is screaming with what ifs and maybes, I know I can't chase you. If I walk any further from my truth, even if you do decide to stay, it wouldn't be real.
I must remain here, in honesty and faith...
So while I stand firmly rooted in hope, I pray the Autumn breezes don't send you away, not when I was so close.
Finally, so close...
After the madness of the heat of day and the magic of drawn out sunsets, it's time to see what still remains...
The summer's over now...
