The Three : The First

I've crossed paths with so many girls
that captured my attention
But really there are only three
I feel are worth a mention

The first one I met long ago
she made my school days hell
My friends called her a lot of things
but I called her Danielle

And long before my writing days
I wrote her notes in class
I had her schedule memorized
to find her in the mass

Eight times a day I raced the clock
to also get my books
I pushed and juked right through the crowd
and got some dirty looks

But it was worth it, just as long
as I could see her face
It seemed she was just out of reach
but I enjoyed the chase

She got me smoking cigarettes
I got her smoking pot
She had me taking lots of pills
I had her doing shots

Getting together, breaking up
was part of the routine
Through high school steady off-and-on
with others in-between

To those that tried to fill the void
it really wasn't fair
I'm sure that it was set to fail
but I just didn't care

The words I wrote her helped express
what I just couldn't say
We've had our ups and downs since then
but we're still friends today
