MARTYR
What ever happened to Martyrdom?
It used to be the bastion of heroes
The preserve of those seeking a greater good
People laying down their lives for others
The ultimate sacrifice one could make
It has now been deliberately hijacked
Hijacked by Islamic extremists
Cowards flying a black flag
Deliberately targeting unarmed innocents
Too cowardly to face equally armed opponents
In a proper theatre or field of war
Innocent holiday makers can’t shoot back
Innocent school girls cannot retaliate
Innocents riding the bus or the train
Innocents shopping in street markets
Innocents going about their daily business
Innocents for drawing cartoons
Innocents delivering aid to other innocents
Innocent medical staff providing care
Unarmed non combatants an easy option
For cowards promised up to 72 virgins
In heaven for them to abuse at will
There is no such heaven
There are no virgins
For suicide bombers
For bus bombers
For beach murderers
They are not martyrs
Their cowardice prevents them from being so
Their cowardice establishes their true nature
Subhuman filth with no redeeming features
Immediate Condemnation is required by all
Especially those closest to them
All must be brought to a true understanding
Of what it means to be a martyr

I've never been particularly religious, but
when I think of a martyr I think of the old
histories of people like St Alban, who supposedly
died refusing to renounce his beliefs and worship
the old roman gods -
I mean it doesn't really matter whether it's
true, it's the image of a peaceful man,
willingly standing up to the threat, that creates
the image of martyrdom...

I agree but if they end up winning and carving out a 'Caliphate' the west will normalize trade and help build infrastructure and all this will be forgotten....from beginning to end, including the inability to stop it, is quite surreal.

In my reading of history Religions might have prospered so much better, long term, if they had concentrated on showing love and compassion rather than death and destruction on the basis 'my gods bigger than your god'
