Silence is Golden

(This poem is based on the quote: "The true genius shudders at incompleteness - and usually prefers silence to saying something which is not everything it should be."--Edgar Allan Poe)

These thoughts that frolic in my head,
are probably better left unsaid.
I hold my tongue, as not to dim,
the light of my Muse's fickle whim.

To be silent makes more sense,
to avoid exploiting incompetence.
But...what is it that I have to fear?
up till now, my thoughts rang clear...

Clear as a whistle...or even a bell,
that easily enchant...easily compel.
Just a whisper, could swiftly enthrall,
slowing inhibitions to a crawl...

My poetic prowess, and silver tongue,
will be known in minds, old and young!
Bards will gather, songs will be sung,
lulling the masses, as hearts are strung.

Yes, yes! I can see it all now,
even Kings cannot help but bow!

...

There I go...I guess you could say,
that sometimes I get carried away.

Before I start, what I cannot complete,
I must thoroughly and dutifully self defeat.
I must refrain, from what should not be,
for I'm a slave to my own inadequacy.
