My Lovely Execution

I captured you a while back
In the lens of my camera
Embarrassed by the attention
That moment now in suspension

I printed you the next day
And developed you in darkness
Your look of apprehension
Shows through in two dimensions

I framed you after that
And left you hanging on my wall
Trapped in my possession
Subject to my pretension

You're still there, on my wall
Obviously we aren't the same
As we used to be,
You and me

Even so,
We act each day
Like everything is just OK

Even though
It probably hasn't been
Since I made it to the other side
Of the great divide

I remember your name
Even when my own slips my mind
I was thinking, on that drive,
About my girl that got left behind

But your face had gone away
By the time I crossed the state line

Can you remember me back
Before the road had gone and broke my heart?
Those are the days I'm thinking 'bout
When I'm thinking 'bout a restart

All the love that we lack
Was a part of an incredible dream
And that's the thing I'm dreaming 'bout
When I'm dreaming 'bout you and me

Still stuck in afternoons
  Wearing my glad rags
     And waiting for you
              To hold my hand

Now, wake me up with the new sun...
My lovely execution
