Image for the poem She Laughs

She Laughs

His crooked smile,
The Darkness in his eyes,
It makes her feel whole again,
Makes her feel home again.

Even when he comes through the door,
Covered in blood,
She gently cleans him,
As if it's just mud.

She feels nothing but happiness,
In this drugged out haze,
This is but ignorant bliss.

The dinner is ready at the table,
She never even explains,
They eat in reverent silence,
He never complains.

This life we're leading,
It's but a sweet farce,
She's just barely breathing,
Reality is becoming sparse.

She lifts her eyes from her bloody plate,
He has disappeared,
The smile creeps upon her lips,
As She raises her head to the sky.

She Laughs.
