Tease and tether

As an anchored ship
The memory of us
Weighs me down
Like a heavy brick

In fifteen short years
You gain freedom
Time served;
Parole and release

On that very day
My sentence begins
I'll fear every shadow
Keep strangers at bay

Sleepless, awake, I'll listen
For bumps in the night
Suspicious of every sound
Now caged in my own prison

The prison you left behind.
