Vivid Violet
I was a quiet explosion of blue
You were a burst of red anger
You touched me and from your fingertips bled violet
Silent, it fed my temper and soothed you
We were roiling oceans of red and blue and you couldn't dare look me in my eyes
For fear you'd despise what you saw
And I sought out every little flaw and my riptides whipped stinging sand into you
You, who could not stand the hue I turned when my violet faded
You, who persuaded me to fall into your crimson abyss
I hissed at anyone who dared near my overgrown heart, you disregarded me and ripped it apart and flipped me upside down
And you found that maybe
Maybe I was meant to be left alone
Maybe my despair was so deeply sewn into who I am that no one could ever stand to stand beside me
I yelled at you, rough and raw and the look in your eyes told me you saw how I turned redder than you had ever been
And I've been red before but this was a blaring alarm bell red
The kind of red like when you said you'd fight until the end for something so trivial as a person
And the web of lies I spun was a masterpiece all spiders envied
