forget the economic and environmental issues...
he was really pissed off when some politician said, "if you're still catching a bus after the age
of forty you're a failure" ...
you try running after a bus at my age, he thought - if you do manage to catch it at all, it's
a bloody achievement...

Politicians who are kind to animals are my take on their hypocrisy. Rats have more dignity! ;)

Paul, I just remembered that you are having an election in a few months. How is it there? I have personally not participated in any national or local elections here in more than 15 years. Where I live, I forget that there is a government, which is a luxury because here you can still live like that.

my vote has traditionally and
idealogically been cast with
a leftish hand, but I know of
plenty with no interest in
politics - although I'm not sure
what that can mean, when the
State, like the poor, is ever with
us...

I stopped voting when they introduced computerised elections. Some idiot said I was naive, that I didn't know how to use a calculator. Of course most people didn't know a computer was a programmable machine, so elections here are pretty much... programmed. ;)
I used to fight like hell in issues like these but I've given it up, now having implanted myself amongst peasants, we look after each other out here. I think get what you mean about the State, with the UK being one of the most heavily state-surveilled countries in the world!
