Menrva

For Sonny,
Dream Brother

Menrva

In the season of fading light
beneath the shattered fragments of a
vermillion sky
I saw your embers glowing gently
in the aftermath of tragedy

You, Theou Noesis,
Mourning Mother,
whispering secret syllables
in silent somnambulant symmetry

I heard you
Your clarion cry a detrition under
the weight of the universe surrounding,
impedious and fractured by he
crumbling bones of your
senselessly slaughtered son

I reached out to you

and in the sacred reciprocal violence
the savage harvest
where the pleading light weeps
at the menace of insanity,
where the unhinged darkness,
the shattering banality
screams down the corridor
in fragments unviolated

I sang my death prayer
danced in tattered cloths
in the reflected light of
a thousand revolving heads
As your measured my grief
and in time, offered nothing in the
wake of my unbinding

no consolation
no cessation
no thought to spark a new world
from a single
word

Only your black feathered wings
unfolding

As your tears scatter round the Earth

“Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over”
