The blaze ever shifting
Ever changing
Ember to roar
Keeping the monsters at bay
The evil things that dwell at the corners of your mind
Whispering devious things
Would do more if not for the ever watchful blaze
A Phoenix
Going from ash to ember to blaze in an endless cycle
Burning away thoughts of pain
Keeping the light
It makes you wonder
What life would be without
Would it be as dark and tremulous as the before times
Darker
More painful
Must keep the blaze in place
Must not lose it again
Must not let it remember
The pain you caused
The sorrow you spoke
