she reminds him of another time...
she reminds him of a film he'd seen, in
black and white, a very long time ago...
yes, he smiles, I remember it quite well,
Scotland Yard with Stiff Upper Lips and
The City doused in rain...at least the
rain is the same, he thinks, but even
that isn't strictly correct, since nothing
is black and white anymore, and yet
still she reminds him...

is it nostalgia, or paranoia,
that makes him look back..:)
to this day I still love old black
and white films, British Ealing
Comedies or US film noir,
whatever...
probably, of course, old London
thrillers, all fog bound and polite
coppers and crooks, resonate most
with me, though..:)

thanks, Dan...
I wanted to work in a joke about it
being the reason I always write in
such a monotone...
but I shan't...

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre comes to mind. It was the first movie that I had ever seen that held my attention as a child, and I love it still; few among many. I remember old Friday fright night movies and Elvis in black and white, and I like old Westerns. I think its defiantly nostalgia. But even in artwork – My taste has always been partial to the sketches in pencil shades. "fog bound and polite coppers and crooks" Id get in trouble for watching Benny Hill.. :)

I've always been drawn to the
sketch of the oil painting before
the actual painting itself, something
to do with the initial idea rather
than it's consummation...

I love black and white
photographs, they capture
the small stark lines that
colour fills in and disguises,
I think...
