Life and the routine
Is their greatness in the norm?
I’m not the type of person
To notice greatness in the norm
Everyday life flows smoothly
There isn’t much to reform
We get up every Sunday
Go to church at the same time
Play with the kids in the afternoon
Then work up some new rhyme
You’ve figured how to run things
When life flies on it’s wings
Sometimes I just need a break in the routine
I know I act all big and manly
Like I just let you go visit your family
But you leave the holes while you’re gone until
You come back and the gaps you’ll fill
I get to see how much I’m lost
Your absence comes with such a cost
I can see how much you sacrifice
Giving us your love and life
Hate to say I’ve come to expect it
My complacency is what I’ve detected
Sometimes I just need a break in the routine
Life rolls along and I don’t notice
How I lose my sight and my focus
The gratitude that I still owe you
Though so many times I know I’ve told you
But you can teach me how to take off the rust
Clean things off and build the trust
I don’t want to just be coasting and stagnant
Be physically present but emotionally absent
I want to notice you every day
And comprehend what I survey
I want to love you through life and the routine
I’m not the type of person
To notice greatness in the norm
Everyday life flows smoothly
There isn’t much to reform
We get up every Sunday
Go to church at the same time
Play with the kids in the afternoon
