The Eighth One
The first one
I wasted half a decade
Just to discover
He would never love me
Or anyone like me
The second one
Used me purely for pleasure
He replaced drugs with me
But both were just as dangerous
And even I hated us
The third one
I crushed beyond belief
Rebound is such an ugly word
He moved away from the city
But mostly away from me
The fourth one
Come to find out
Only saw me as arm candy
Got what he wanted
And ended things on a holiday
Without too much to say
The fifth one
I fell for and could never explain why
His heart drew me to him
But even that I couldn't explain
But he was one I never did gain
The sixth one
Saw the truth as an enemy
Was as prosthetic as could be
Got too scared for his own good
So I only did what I could
The seventh one
We were such good friends
We got blinded by excitement
I took his innocence
His girlfriend now bares the expectance
The most recent one, though
I thought was “the” one
I cracked open my heart
Just to let him ease on in
Happiness became a part of my everyday vocabulary
But come to find out the dictionary changes
Now "shattered" is the central term
And never again will I let someone into that crack
It’s been filled with cement
All because of that happiness
That silly word “love”
Number eight, you turned love into hate
I wasted half a decade
Just to discover
He would never love me
Or anyone like me
