The Prayer
I prayed today
In the only church I know
The trail calls me
To confess, the sun on my face
I prayed today
For peace again to find me
For my path to be revealed
For the wisdom to walk it with grace
I hear her in my ear
Sweet windy whisper
Her hand on my shoulder
"Girl." she breathes
"Yours is not to walk the path.
Yours is to kneel,
And crawl,
And serve, little one"
I prayed today
For patience
And trust
To wait
In the only church I know
The trail calls me
To confess, the sun on my face
I prayed today
For peace again to find me
For my path to be revealed
For the wisdom to walk it with grace
I hear her in my ear
Sweet windy whisper
Her hand on my shoulder
"Girl." she breathes
"Yours is not to walk the path.
Yours is to kneel,
And crawl,
And serve, little one"
I prayed today
For patience
And trust
To wait
