Should've Asked Me First

It's just a dance, one night of our lives
but they couldn't understand and made you take it back
I saw the look in your eyes and something was wrong
you thought I was angry, that I needed distance
so you didn't look at me or speak to me for what seemed like
forever, when it was only hours
all I needed was to hear you said you're still my friend
you've explained it all, but I swore you were ashamed of me

Should've asked me first, that's what you said
I'm not sure I should let that go to my head
plans are still changed, my heart wants to break
but I know you didn't want things this way
It's not your fault and it's not on me
no one's to blame but the ones who couldn't see
how much this meant to me or how the story behind it
wasn't a problem at all, it's reality
it isn't the place but the person that I adore
I love you and that will never change
even though maybe it's true that
you should've asked me first
can't go back, it will all be alright

You didn't do anything wrong I promise
I just want to ever lose the bonds that we have made
I see you smiling now and I hope it's not for show
not like the smile I returned
I can't get it through my mind that it wasn't something I
did wrong, but miscommunication
all I need is for you to listen to me like you used to
you can tell me everything, just like you always do

Should've asked me first, that's what you said
I'm not sure I should let that go to my head
plans are still changed, my heart wants to break
but I know you didn't want things this way
It's not your fault and it's not on me
no one's to blame but the ones who couldn't see
how much this meant to me or how the story behind it
wasn't a problem at all, it's reality
it isn't the place but the person that I adore
I love you and that will never change
even though maybe it's true that
you should've asked me first
can't go back, it will all be alright
