Bird Calls
Let me love as though winter is calling,
Breathe deeply when silence comes,
Feel the anguish as my heart runs dry,
Find a moment of life entering eternity,
Will you, seductive mistress of man,
Kiss me lightly bearing presents of the void,
Forged in moldy earthen minds, of those
who bear the light within the shadows,
Teach the secrets vested in God,
To mortals of his shared fate,
Before Lethe's clear waters envelope
My memories, to darkling planes untold,
Be they careless, soulful, and miserably joyous,
Yet, you feel their bones not mine,
Locking tongues each day, I've borne witness,
Each night the thrushes call is fainter,
Can you hear me softly singing,
ruffled through the barberry branches,
A melody on Poseidon's currents,
Drowned in the symphony of time,
I will marry death some moment,
Long black hair, hard pale fingers,
In that second between all and nothing,
I shall bear witness to joy.
