college life
my mind is drifting floating
in an intoxicating fog
it isn't alcoholic
it's the college student smog
an insidious cocktail
of sleep deprivation
and deep thought
sugar,pizza,yum caffeine
the 3.am disease
known as chronic philosophy
the later it gets
the harder to sleep
your vision blurs
you can hardly breath
a test tomorrow
a paper due
still procrastination is so sweet
and sweeter still the promise of sleep
and yet there is a peculiar high
a Renaissance of battered minds
an energy you can't understand
a desperation not to fail the class
people think it's all in play
but not if you care about grades
welcome to the circus of sleepless nights
of panic attacks and roommate fights
High school was a cruel cruel lie
welcome to the college life
you can study,
you can try,
but often the study
guide is just a lie
professors,
pompous pedantic
cruel
at least for some that is the truth
things about college they didn't tell you
poor little freshmen without a clue
in an intoxicating fog
it isn't alcoholic
it's the college student smog
an insidious cocktail
of sleep deprivation
and deep thought
