THE AUTOPSY(revised)
THE AUTOPSY
We both had to carry it together...
This rotting corpse of a relationship.
We threw it on the table and stared for several forevers.
I offered you the scalpel, but as always,
you insisted on me starting...Ignoring caution,
I viciously made the first incision.
You shook your head in annoyance,
but face it...It's already dead.I stretched open the cut
and pulled out the first of many bad memories,
tossing them aside as I dug deeper.
You couldn't help but carefully examine each one.
As I grew impatient of your over analytical process,
I started slicing more franticly.
I was sure the cause was deeper inside.
up to my elbows in the filth of this mess,
and at this point,I was very angry
I hadn't gotten to the root of our demise...
Until I glanced over at where you knelt.
Everything that I had removed was strewn everywhere.
All the memories,the betrayal,the fights...
You were quietly sobbing, nearly buried in it all.
It was then I realized...There wasn't one cause of death...
It just wasn't meant to be.
Looking down into the gutted remains,
I saw the beginning. The few beautiful pieces of you and me...
I gently took them out,and divided it between us.
We held them close and cried for awhile...
Afterwards,we cleaned each other off,
sewed up the wounds,
and still holding onto the good times we shared
Went our seperate ways...
