Memory of a Promise

I walked into the room that...and leaned carelessly against the dresser
There she was...her beauty draped across the bed
The bed where love was made..with power and passion
I could never never help but not take my eyes off her
She looked up at me and said,
"You're going to leave me, I just know it"
"Never would I do such a thing," I said.
My body fell next to her warmth...
"You promise me," she said, with a radiant soft tone
"I promise you," I say, my mouth close to her ear, "I could never leave you"
And several days, even months, have come and gone...
I sleep in this once fulfilled bed, alone...
Wakened by the nightmare
Of the day she left.
