A History of Fire
Cheek unto cheek
breath unto breath
in a web of life,
a blood-stained mess.
And I am the life,
you are the fire
breathing and burning
in the age-old pantomime.
Ingrained, the preferred,
previously interred.
Know the promise,
remember the pain
and forget the cynic’s evil refrain.
Kiss the scars, divide the skin
inhale the smoke
and let this begin.
