OPIUM

Opium, I thought you were a princess
in long flowing dress
with pearls upon your neck
and tender hand to guide me
through life's twisting highways.

But you had me fooled,
you were a ten dollar whore
whose skin was sickly and white.
You are a liar and a thief
a fraudster of the cruelest kind.
Who you will beg borrow and steal
to feed her hungry desire.

When the claws have tightened
and there's no escape,
upon the road
only darkness awaits.
