Forgettable

You are silent
You are voiceless
You are nothing
Aimless distress calls through those subtle tapes
Momentary blink
Grit of the teeth
Transparent invisibility
You stole with your westward fingers
Jutting between my ribs
Just to find evidence of the gaps that exist there
Drudging further between each exhale
Your grip is unmoving
And I am cemented
You claim I have always been just a root
With no branches
A first attempt
With no second chances
But I feel you have only sliced away my foundations
With a string for a saw
Cutting into my defenses with tension
I am the tree that falls
I am destruction
But you say I live surrounded by fields of opportunity
And I crush them all so easily
Unblossomed with no seeds spread for growth
You say I am all alone
I am forgettable
But will not the ground miss my shadow in the dry heat?
Will not the wind miss the fragrance of hollowness between my leaves?
Or the earth miss its suture
If I were to ever cease to be
I may be forgettable
But only to you
You who do not know me
