Mom
I remember you in Winter,
Where have you been gone to for so long...
These far away places contribute more than just long distances between us.
The warm embrace has frozen over and the loving smile is shattered on the floor. I grip the shards, hoping to feel something, anything, just so I know I'm still alive. Color flows more beautifully than I can ever recall..
The only kisses I yearn for now are from the dragon in my closet.
The sun climbs the tree tops while I'm caught up in the underbrush.
Shade covers me, smoke signals are drawn but no one comes back for us.
We only care for ourselves.
Escape was inevitable but I'm drowning myself in the undertoe.
Through the surface they're led by the pounding drum with nooses tied around their necks.... The rose in the vodka bottle told me family runs deeper than blood.
