The Twig

A twig innocent
green leaves writhing,
above the coals.
Green leaves cast off
in flashing sparks,
twisting, crying,
squirming, ecstasy
reluctant to comply,
defiant fights on.
One last time
springs from the heat
beneath the tree from
whence, in haste   ...   ....
scorched and wiser   ...   ....
