 Dark and secret place
not known to all
shunned by some who are afraid
found by those who travel far,
stumbling as they go.
dark forbidden places
hid in magic valleys,
and finding seek,
enter to find a welcome not
squandered on passers by.
Both with caution give and take
the hostess reassured,
her thresh-hold secure
gratitude his gift
treading gently the velvet space
waiting, in this humid hall
until called to account.
In subdued tones asks
his hostess may he stay
one short moment to pay respect
and share. . . . . . .
no turning back
things no more the same
elves dance and sing, knowing grins
wrapped in gossamer folds
keep away all others
