Shelved

Set upon the shelf
The moment it got too tough
Desperately longing for time to unwind
To be that one, that you destroyed

Sitting upon that shelf you made
Dreaming, creating words we’ve never said
Conversations never to be spoken
Remembering places we’ve never been

Alone on my shelf I’ve been so long
Wondering where you’ve gone
What was more important than us?
Who weren’t you willing to fight?

Shelved and forgotten,
Tucked away, an unread book
Was it so easy to walk away?
Leaving us to find our own way

Dusty this old shelf has gotten
Before you take me down
Opening me up to read about us
But my pages are few for me and you

That old shelf is inviting
As I listen to your conniving
Beckoning me to believe
All those words you practiced to deceive

My shelf is un-blaming
It held me up no questions asked
It kept me warm, kept me cool
No payback required

Off this shelf, I cannot return
I’m no longer your concern after your blatant disregard
For the one you put on the shelf
And now all I have to say is, you can go fuck yourself

It’s your turn for that shelf
I hope it breaks with this switch
Making you fall on your ass
You’re not a mother, just a selfish bitch
