Nothing

The night wind calls my name
Whispering it softly against my cheek
The grass sways in harmony
To songs from the katydid choir
    Yet, I hear nothing
The wolf howls his loneliness
To the cold unfeeling moon
The lake serenades the sand
With murmuring waves of affection
    Yet, I hear nothing
The trees rustle their leaves
In the endless dance of life
As the bobcat screams his defiance
On this strange summer night
     Yet, I hear nothing
The birds are beginning to sing
In encouragement to the sun
Who has just kissed the edge
Of the dark horizon it loves
  Yet I hear nothing
The noise of human traffic
Picks up in it's extent
As the sounds of the night
Wither to afar
  Yet, I hear nothing
For locked in my head
Running in ragged circles
Are thoughts of you I cherish
Immersing themselves in my soul
   Yet, I hear nothing
But the anticipating beats of my heart
At the thought of seeing you.
