Janerson's Pond

there was a creek round the bend
with cool water
that ran for miles
where we dipped in the nude
in a clearing near the hollows

during most summers eve
when our folks were in bed
we’d slip out
and meet behind Jamerson’s shed

under moon and stars
our undying pledge
to forsake all others
with promises
to wed

young love is fickle
changes as you grow
alters how you feel
questions what
you know

it’s been twenty years I think
we’ve both moved on
but I stopped in town
for one last  peek
at old Jamerson’s Farm
