For The Best

You're laying right beside me,
A feeling I once loved,
Now I feel myself pulling away,
Having you here isn't enough.

It's like we're growing apart,
We're just not the same,
You curl your arm around me,
And all I feel is shame.

How am I to tell you,
The very thing that'll break
your heart,
That my love for you has ended,
God I don't know where to
start.

I get out of bed quietly,
And begin to pack my things,
Then I leave you a note,
Expressing my feelings.

"I'm sorry that it's come
to this,
I just don't love you anymore,
I never wanted to hurt you,
But my heart was torn.

I wanted to stay and make it
work,
But that I couldn't do,
I knew if I went on pretending,
More hurt would come to you.

I know it sucks right now,
But you'll find someone else,
Someone who'll love you,
And make you feel nothing you've
ever felt."

Before I walk out the door,
I glance at you sleeping in bed,
Then I leave you with my goodbye,
Knowing it's for the best.
